DECA members attend conference in Detroit, Mich.
Over 25 WHS attendees also visit Chicago as part of trip

DECA members at WHS recently traveled to Detroit, Mich., for the marketing organization's Central Region Leadership Conference Nov. 16-18.
In total 26 WHS students attended the event at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center, then stayed in Chicago Nov. 18 and returned to Sioux Falls on Nov. 19.
At the conference, students attended keynote speaker sessions and attended leadership and career focused workshops. Other highlights included a Ford Motor Company factory tour and a cruise on the Detroit River.
The students also took a tour of Soldier Field and visited sites in Chicago including Millennium Park on the way home.
Students who traveled included freshmen Junior Gayetaye, Youngor Kerkulah, Robbee LaRoche, Mawazo Momboleo, Sentiea Sentier and Peytn Wierenga; sophomore Phensamat Kitilach; juniors Merci Bita, Sita Dulal, Emmanuel Gayetaye, Brayden Hagen, Jacy Koma, Stephanie Marroquin Alvarez, Elijah Matthews, Morgan Mitchell, Skyla Sanders, Liz Schavee, Sara Schavee and Kaela Wierenga and seniors Grace Gayetaye, Caleb Gonzalez, Evelyn Haro, Eunice Kandolo, Olivia Roelfsema, Giday Shega and Pauline Shelue.
Adviser Brad Kennett said the trip was successful.
“They always learn about careers and leadership skills and it’s always fun to go into new cities that nobody has ever been to before,” Kennett said.
DECA will compete at the state conference in Sioux Falls in February and the international conference at the end of April in Orlando, Fla.
