Superstars were recently crowned in physical education (PE) classes ending just before the Thanksgiving break at WHS.
Once each semester, PE classes each period are combined and split into teams. The teams compete in a variety of activities and accumulate points for winning small competitions.
Activities include jump rope head-to-head battles, team running relays, volleyball, matball, scooter races, “Minute to Win It” style games and the traditional team tug-of-war.
Teacher Jamie Parish said the unit is an important and fun one.
“The unit is used to encourage teamwork and allow students to compete in a variety of activities that use a multitude of skills,” Parish said.
Parish said the students had a great time with the unit.
“You get to see them laughing and giggling and having fun,” he said. “You get to see leaders emerge and develop in each team.”
The first period winners included freshmen Joe Uttecht, Beckett Brady, Ella Wilson, Nathan Brandt, Jayden Praseuth and Josh McCall and seniors Matt Reusch and Cody Feltman.
The second period winners included freshmen Clayton Poppenga and Laney Wentworth, sophomores Kevin Hernandez Umana and Ashimita Biswa and senior Alex Breidenbach.
Third period winners were freshmen Reya Adhikari and Asher Eidem, sophomore Nejma Asman, juniors Thomas Mitchell and David Danilko and seniors Tyler Milliron and Isaac Munce.
The sixth period winners included freshmen Irankunda Egide, Tony Edwards and Blayne Verhey and sophomores Musa Mussa, Decimas Laurelez and Kyleigh Vrondran.
Wilson said she enjoyed playing in the games.
“It was a lot of fun to participate,” Wilson said. “We had a blast and used a lot of teamwork to get the dub.”
