Next up for the Warrior girls basketball team is the State AA Tournament March 14-16 in Rapid City after they won their way into the tournament with a SoDak 16 victory Friday at WHS.

The Warriors defeated Rapid City Central 47-33 Friday to earn their berth in the tournament, where they will be seeded No. 6 and face No. 3 seed Lincoln in the first round. The game will be played at 5 p.m. on March 14 in the Ice Arena at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City.

After being down 9-5 at the end of the first quarter Friday, the Warriors used a strong second quarter to out-score the Cobblers 16-4 and never looked back. Senior Peyton Rymerson had 12 points to lead the Warriors in the game, along with six rebounds, two assists, and a block. Senior Samiya Jami had 11 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Sydni Schetnan had nine points, seven rebounds and five blocks for the Warriors.

This will be the Warrior girls 11th visit to state in the past 12 years with a break in 2017.

Head coach Jamie Parish was pleased.

“Our girls showed a lot of poise when things weren’t going our way,” Parish said. “Our defense was on point and we put up enough points in the second half to win the ball game.”

Tickets for the combined tournament can be purchased at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Box Office on the day of the game or online at gotmine.com. Tickets are $10 per session, adults $15 or $30/45 for the whole tournament. All seats are general admission.
