Three-members of the three time state 11AAA champion Warrior football team took advantage of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) early signing day Dec. 20 to sign with regional schools.
Senior team members Will Farniok signed with the University of Nebraska, Brock Walker with the University of Minnesota and Zach Heins with South Dakota State University (SDSU) at 8 a.m. Dec. 20 at the Avera Sports Institute in Sioux Falls.
“It was an amazing moment with all my brothers and finally becoming a Husker,” Farniok said.
Farniok has lost only one game that he played in his four years at WHS, a record of 43-1—8-0 as a freshman on the JV team and 35-1 as a three-year starter on varsity.
“It was very exciting being able to officially become a Jackrabbit, and I’m very happy I could do it along with my teammates and friends,” Heins said.
Heins also only lost one game that he played in his four years at WHS, a record of 51-1—8-0 as a freshman on the freshman team; 8-0 on the JV team and three-years as varsity starter 35-1.
“A dream became reality alongside my lifetime brothers,” Walker enthused.
Walker started one game on varsity as a freshman that the Warriors lost, meaning he lost two games that he played in his four years at WHS, a record of 51-2—8-0 as a freshman on the freshman team; 8-0 on the JV team and three-years as the regular varsity starter/kicker 35-1.
Senior Seth Benson, who verbally committed to SDSU, did not sign with the school Wednesday after receiving a recent offer from the University of Iowa. He will make his decision later.
Coach Chad Stadem is very proud.
“It’s a very exciting time for these guys going on to play at a high level,” Stadem said. “Having four guys from the senior class to play Division I football is pretty amazing.”
The signing was designed only for FBS/FCS football players. The rest of the WHS football/soccer commits will take place Feb. 7, 2018.
