Top 10 Senior gets scholarship to dream school

Every senior has a dream school, but for most it’s just a dream.
Top 10 Senior from May 22nd’s HonorFest Ruhama Tereda’s dream came true as she not only got accepted to her first dream school, Duke University in Durham, N.C., but also got a full ride scholarship to attend, as well.
Her scholarship is the University Scholarship Program, and it was established by Melinda Gates, wife of Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who went to Duke for her undergraduate degrees in both computer science and economics.
Tereda had no idea about this program at first, but thankfully she found out that you are automatically considered once you apply.
“When I got the email that I had been selected as a finalist, I was in complete disbelief,” Tereda said.
Her next step involved completing an application and then flying to Durham for an interview.
Tereda found out the good news that she had been chosen as one of the recipients on her birthday and said she feels incredibly humbled and awestruck by her selection.
“I applied to Duke knowing for certain that I wouldn’t get in, but I had always felt that I should apply, so I did,” she said. “Although I do not feel worthy of this honor, I remind myself of what good I could do for others if I pursue this next challenge with determination and diligence.”
