Highsteppers take first with wins in both Pom, Hip Hop 
Cheer team takes second at Roosevelt event

Warrior competitive dance team members took first place and competition cheer team members second place at the Roosevelt Invitational Saturday at the Sanford Pentagon.

Competitive dance took the Grand Championship in the 14-team competition with a 272 average, defeating Class A Dakota Valley for the first time this season.  

Senior Sierra Nelson was very proud of her team. 

“We worked really hard this past week in practice, and it payed off at the competition,” Nelson said. 

WHS took first in Hip Hop by 10 points and Pom by 18.5 points, ending with a score of 277. They finished second in Jazz to Harrisburg. 

The competitive cheer team took second overall in the 15-team competition with a 210.5. Roosevelt won with a 241.5. 
Cheer coach Alissa Sendelbach said the team did very well, overall.

“We had a few mistakes, but we will come out stronger tomorrow for Brandon,” Sendelbach enthused. 

Seniors were honored at the Pentagon on Saturday as the season nears its conclusion. 

The teams will next compete in the Brandon Valley Invitational at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
