Warrior powerlifting team members competed at the Sioux Falls Classic Powerlifting Meet Dec. 9 at Lincoln High School as senior Madison Hollingshead won the Women’s Blue Division with a 865 pound total spread across the three lifts—squat, bench and deadlift.
“I am really proud of how the team did,” Hollingshead said. “Even though it is still early in the season, we had eight people compete and over half of us took one or more awards home. I am excited to see what the rest of the season has to come!”
Junior Matt Ruesch also placed second, and sophomores Brandon Dickens, Jamie Thomas and Macy Skiles placed third in their weight classes.
Both Hollingshead and Ruesch were also awarded Best Female and Male Athlete of the meet. The girls award is based on the highest total combined weight lifted and the boys on the greatest coefficient, or the three-lift total divided by the participant’s bodyweight.
“I, and the entire coaching staff, were very proud of how the team performed,” coach Jason Stahlberg said. “Everyone that participated competed hard and all of our athletes set new personal records. To only take eight athletes and have five of them place in the top three and claim best male and female awards is quite an accomplishment!”
The team will next participate in the O’Gorman High School Powerlifting Invitational Jan. 27, 2018.
