Warrior theater students and musicians will open the Musical “the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” May 2 in the auditorium.
The production is a musical comedy centering on a fictional spelling bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School. Six quirky adolescents compete in the Bee, run by three equally quirky grown-ups.
Involving improv and sometimes incorporating audience members as competitors in the spelling bee, the show is a rollicking good time.
Three productions will begin at 7 p.m. May 2, 3 and 4. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults and will be available at the door for each performance.
Director Bryan Aukerman said the musical is about a group of mostly nerdy, overly stressed kids at a spelling bee.
“They are all slowly figuring out if this stress and pressure are worth it,” Aukerman said.
He recommends those who are stressed from AP or semester tests should come for an escape.
Junior April Moen, who plays Schwartzy, expects everyone to laugh.
“I’m feeling excited for our performance because we’ve worked really hard on this for a long time,” Moen said.
