Competition cheer, dance teams compete in Yankton
Dance team takes second, cheer fourth

Warrior competition cheer and dance teams showed their talent and strength at the Yankton Invitational Sept. 6 at Yankton High School.
Dance team members won the Hip Hop division over second place Roosevelt by eight points and Pom over second place Dakota Valley by two points, but ended in second place overall to Dakota Valley 266.83-257.17 in the 12-team Yankton Invitational.
The Warriors scored 261 in Hip Hop and 252.5 in Pom for first place, and 258 in Jazz for second to reach the 257.17 average.
Sophomore Iyana Augustus, a member of the dance team, said it was a fun night.
“We went out and had a great time,” Augustus said. “We all love dancing together.”
The competition cheer team scored 224 for fourth place in the 15-team competition. O’Gorman won the event with a score of 257.7.
Senior Sarah Snelling said the team will work to improve.
“We did not do as well as we wanted to,” Snelling said. “We are really excited to improve for next time.”
The teams will next compete in the Brookings Invitational Sept. 15.
