Warrior varsity volleyball team members finished in second place in the State AA Volleyball Tournament over the weekend at the Premiere Center in Sioux Falls.
After defeating Roosevelt in four games on the first day of the tournament, the Warriors went on to earn an impressive win over O’Gorman in the semifinals in three 25-11, 25-19, 25-18 Friday. It was the first win over O’Gorman this season after the Warriors fell to the Knights in five both meetings in the regular season. In the game, senior Samiya Jami had 10 kills and three ace serves. Senior Lily Bartling had nine kills. Senior Aspen Langley tallied 30 assists and senior Peyton Rymerson had 18 digs.
That set up a State AA Final vs. Rapid City Stevens for the Warriors on Saturday. Stevens was the No. 1 seed in the tournament and had only one loss in the regular season, to WHS. In the end, the Raiders were too tough to beat twice, and the Warriors fell in three games 22-25, 18-25, 22-25. Langley again led in assists with 26. Bartling had 12 kills and Jami nine. Jami also had 16 digs and Rymerson 15.
Rymerson said it was a good tournament.
“We had a great experience at state this year on and off the court,” Rymerson said. “Even though our end goal wasn’t achieved, we still accomplished many things and fought hard until the end. I’m going to miss Warrior volleyball, but once a Warrior, always a Warrior!”
