Kpeayeh finishes seventh at State A Tournament
Pierre wins A division, Canton takes B title

Junior Tupak Kpeayeh finished the State A Wrestling Tournament in seventh place Friday and Saturday at the Premiere Center in Sioux Falls.
Kpeayeh finished the season at 36-14 and defeated eighth grader Owen Warren (23-19) of Yankton with a pin in 4:01 in the seventh place match.
Junior Morgan Warmbien finished his season with a record of 18-15 off the podium.
Kpeayeh said it was a great time.
“I am very happy to have gotten the opportunity to represent Washington on the podium, watch some good wrestling and meet new people in the wrestling world,” Kpeayeh said.
With only two qualifiers, WHS finished the tournament in 28th palace with 7 team points. Pierre won the tournament overall for the A division with 159 team points, winning two state titles and one second place.
Canton took the tournament for the B division with 165 points, winning three individual titles and two second places.
Coach Lance Peters said he is hopeful for next season, based on this one.
“The team is young,” Peters said. “We are learning and building a foundation for seasons to come.”
As for the state tournament, Peters said it want well.
“Morgan and Tupak wrestled well,” Peters said. “It was nice to see Tupak on the podium. It will be nice to have them back next year.”
The wrestling banquet will be held at 6 p.m. March 13 in the commons.
